Environment
Caring for the environment.
We recognise that our operations affect the local, regional and global environment, and we are committed to continuous improvement.
We take our responsibilities to the environment seriously. We believe environmental laws, regulations and codes of practice are the minimum we should be doing.
We only work with and provide responsibly sourced timber that is traceable back to the source forest, comes from legally harvested forests, and, at your request, from forests whose management is actively working towards credible certification (with FSC as the certification scheme).
Our practices
- All our wood suppliers guarantee their products come from responsibly managed, sustainable sources, so our products do not contribute to deforestation.
- All wood is ordered in sizes appropriate to the job, so we produce as few offcuts as possible.
- We run our own Environmental Management System for recycling cardboard, water and wood waste.
- All wood waste is recycled into briquettes, used to heat our work areas and sold for home heating. We are on the Biomass Suppliers List (BSL) and our briquettes are a Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) woodfuel.
- We only use water based paints, finishes and other chemicals, unless there is no viable alternative.
Future aims
- Improving staff awareness of waste management and waste minimisation.
- Only using products that have been recycled or can be recycled.
- Favouring suppliers who share our environmental values.
- Identifying and using more eco-friendly products as they become available.
- Developing further recycling schemes relevant to our activities.
Accoya

We recommend Accoya as a stable, durable alternative to African hardwoods. It comes from sustainable sources and is treated by acetylation to match, and often exceed, the performance of tropical hardwoods.
